Combine your Marks from the previous step using the following methodologies. Make sure you keep each portion of the exercise clearly marked and organized so that you can track your steps.
⁑ For this step you may use a copy machine, scanner, RISO, cut/paste techniques, phone apps, the electric Zine Maker desktop app or a combination to generate new expansive forms. You may also experiment with 3D forms that you capture and bring back into 2D, creating a generative loop.
→ Chance Processes
Each word already has a corresponding letter
(A, B, C, D); each Mark already has a corresponding number: (1, 2, 3, 4… etc).
Use a random way of combining your Marks
so you don’t control the outcomes.
Combine in groups of 3, for example
Word A, Mark 3 + Word C, Mark 1 + Word D, Mark 2 = 1 “New Mark.”
Do this 10 different times.
This will give you 10 New Marks.
→ Process of Elimination and Incorporation (Addition or Subtraction)
⁑⁑ for this method, you can incorporate photography as an additional element.
a. Eliminate 2 of your Words.
Select and combine four marks on each page (of your remaining words) into 1 New Mark. Do this 5 times for each sheet. You should have 5 New Marks.
b. Combine the 5 New Marks into a new final one.
This will give you a singular (1) New Mark.
c. Repeat this step five (5) times.
This will give you a total of six (6) New Marks.
